The Sun varies over a wide range of timescales, from fluctuations associated with magnetic activity that can vary from minutes to years, to changes that may occur over longer term cycles.

Since the strength of solar radiation reaching Earth is not evenly distributed across the electromagnetic spectrum, in addition to the total solar irradiance (TSI), measurement of the spectral solar irradiance (SSI) is also essential, especially as it interacts with d

NASA's Solar Irradiance Science Team (SIST) will meet on 8-9 May, 2018 at the SSAI facility in the Aerospace Building in Lanham (http://www.ssaihq.com/

TSIS-1 has completed its 90-day commissioning activities, and will continue to learn about the very dynamic ISS environment for optimal operation.

TSIS-1 was successfully launched to International Space Station from the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station on Dec 15, 2017. It was the first time that SpaceX flew a government mission on a reused Falcon 9 first stage and a recycled Dragon supply ship.

On Feb 22-23, 2017, the LASP instrument teams hosted a 2-day workshop on TIM and SIM measurement principles, TRF and SRF operation and calibration, and instrument validation and verification.

On February 8-9, 2017, TSIS-1 completed the Delta PER (Pre-Environmental Review).

On June 6, 2016, NASA conducted a KDP-C review and decided to proceed with TSIS-1 phase-C development to launch the TIM and SIM instruments to ISS by 2018. The TSIS project was transferred from NOAA to NASA in FY16.
